Originally located in Street, ‘The Orchards’ moved to Chindit Avenue, its new site, in 2003. It gained its name because the original house was surrounded by an apple orchard. Orchards is a unique and warm house with some longstanding traditions, such as the Drone's Club, which includes familiarising oneself with PG Wodehouse and his tales about the adventures of Jeeves and Wooster, and most importantly, the fine tradition of knowing how to tie a bow tie, all in the name of becoming a gentleman. Orchards also have their own Latin song, which is sung on three memorable occasions during the year by our Upper Sixth. It is a family orientated house where values and principles form the basis of how the boys aim to lead their lives.
The house has two large common rooms and a small common room for the Upper Sixth. There are also fully fitted kitchen areas for the boys to make themselves snacks, a private study area which contains a selection of books and a quiet room with computers and daily newspapers. Wireless broadband is available throughout the house, as well as a pool table, table tennis tables and table football.
Stuart became Housemaster in January 2017. Before this, Stuart was Housemaster of Ivythorn House. He also coaches and teaches in the Geography Department. Holly has coached netball at Millfield and, prior to joining the school, Holly and Stuart taught at independent schools in South West London, both in the role of Head of Year. They have three children, Isobel, Stanley and Zachary. Family life is important to them and the values they impart on the boys. Stuart and Holly are both sport enthusiasts and they encourage the boys to be active as much as possible.
